Mountaintop Elopement Katoomba
When I first spoke to Sarah and Justice on Skype I asked why they’d chosen Australia to elope. They live in Kansas, USA and with the whole world to choose from I wanted to know how and why they chose the stunning Blue Mountains.
Sarah said they’d attended a number of friends weddings in the past year and decided a traditional wedding wasn’t for them. So they decided to elope and spend their money on a kick-ass honeymoon and while Sarah was looking for the perfect destination an email hit her inbox with discount flights to Sydney.
That email turned out to be a blessing and a curse. They found their perfect destination, they booked me, booked the fabulous hair and make-up artist Paul Bedgood, organised their celebrant Charmaine Tully and had a few nights at the luxe Echoes Resort. Easy peasy right?
But…. when they went to the airport - their flight was cancelled. No worries airline staff said - they could board another one in 48 hours - scheduled to arrive after their wedding!
Sarah and Justice ended up travelling for 55 hours from Kansas to elope in the Blue Mountains. When their flight was cancelled, they hired a car and drove 8 hours to sleep for 4 hours in a motel that stuffed up their booking. Justice said even when Sarah was on the plane she still didn’t believe they were actually going to make it to Australia. They caught a whole bunch of flights, landed in Sydney and caught the train straight away to Katoomba. They finally arrived in a day later than planned and only an hour before we met to start shooting. No time for getting ready shots so we started with the first look.
They were wired! Sleep deprived, jet lagged and insanely excited to finally be here. And their elopement was definitely worth it all!
I can't believe what these guys went through and I'm so insanely happy to have shared their sleep-deprived-oh-so-grateful-we’ve-finally-made-it-elopement on top of the world! Enjoy xx
